Orange festival 2

The local paper reported that over 40,000 people are estimated to have been at the free event. So these guys(and girls) who were giving away free cider had a very busy day.Needless to say there were a few people who maybe had too much!!

Orange Festival.

The yearly, ORANGE EVOLUTION FESTIVAL takes place over 12 days at various venues around the city, culminating in the free day at Newcastle quayside. You can just see the side of the main stage on the left and the smaller stage at the mid-right point, next to Spillers dog food factory. It was a great day (you can see it was packed) and although it was cold at least it didn't rain. I shall post more photo's on here and my other blog later in the week.

Recognise anyone? yes!!!

Ok.Eric Burdon was in the Animals("house of the rising sun")
Bryan Ferry was in Roxy Music.
Brian Johnson is the lead singer of AC/DC.
Mark Knopfler was the leader of Dire Straits.
Hank Marvin and Bruce Welsh were both in the Shadows with Cliff Richard!
Dave Stewert was with Annie Lennox as the Eurythmics(But he is from sunderland,
so dosn't count!)
Neil Tennant is in the Pet Shop Boys.Of course I guess you all knew Sting(Huge solo star
and was good when he was the singer with the Police)
Finally my favorite..How many of you(I guess only in the UK) knew that PJ and Duncan
turned into jovial jolly Geordie Tv presenters, Ant and Dec???

Recognise anyone ?

This weekend the Newcastle area has three music festivals on.Some big names are playing but I will be going to the free one on the quayside on Monday(its a holiday here). There are some lesser names playing but more to my taste. To celebrate the music names that have come from Newcastle and area see how many names you know on this book.Every single one of you should know at least one name on here if not more!

Harley-Davidson Art Work.

Across the road from the Harley store are half a dozen great pieces of Harley related art work. This is my favorite but there are 3 OTHER PIECES here.

Harley Shop.

The Harley Davidson shop is about a mile out of the city centre at Sandyford.The-WEB SITE is here.
A photo of the actual store is here HARLEY-DAVIDSON STORE.
Come back tomorrow to see some amazing Harley artwork.

Taxi!

A sight I'm sure many of you see every day.Lines of cabs just waiting to take people somewhere. If I ever became a cab driver I would have to do the night shift as I think day time would be too boring.

Bigg Market building.

Although the Bigg Market is now just a party area with clubs, pubs, restaurants and take aways, its gets its name, not because of its size but because 'bigg' was a type of barley grown in the North-East of England. This area was used for selling and trading barley and wheat etc.
Go here for a more DETAILED PICTURE.

Men at Work (2)

Monday is bin day in Newcastle city centre(aswell as other areas including where I live). So this is my tribute to the guys and girls who do this job. I'm sure it's not the worst job in the world but certainly one of the smelliest.(this was going to be posted yesterday but was ousted for a far more important photo!)

Proudest dad in the world!

This is my son.On Saturday he had his football teams annual awards night. He won "opposition managers player of the year",which means he got more 'man of the match' nominations than any other player in his team.(That's the massive silver one). The other 2 trophys are for being a member of the league and also for being a member of his team-all players get those. His Grandma,Mam and myself were all there to cheer him on.

Bowling Green.

Back to Armstrong Park today. There is something I really like about bowling green's...can't really explain it,but I love the order and perfection I think. In the background is the park cafe and store room--which somehow seems wrong,as it is such a great looking building

Good book?

More street/people photography today. This lady was oblivious to anything and everything that was going on around her,she was so deep into reading her book. That certainly made it easier to get a photo of her.(I actually got about 10 but I thought this was the best). I like these photo's because it makes England look like a sunny country! *smiles*

Watch the bus!!

I decided after yesterday's post that I should be braver and start taking more street/people photo's. This lady was only 10 foot in front of me and I swear she didn't see me take this. However she didn't see the bus that just tooted at her as it passed behind her!! You can see the bus window and the building opposite reflected.
Another street photo tomorrow.

No rush.

I really wanted to get a photo with no other people in the background, and I waited ages. Eventually I gave up,but I like this anyway. I think the policeman and woman must have been friends with the traffic warden as they chatted with smiles on thier faces for quite some time!

House of Adam.

We have many parks in Newcastle, and this one is called Armstrong Park.At the entrance is what remains of this very old house,of which there is very little known. The SIGN ON THE WALL tells you a little more.

Land of the Brown Ale.

We started this trip down the Ouseburn with a saying so we will finish with one too.

"Newcastle,land of the Brown Ale.
Even if I'm far away like to think I'll come back to it again,
One day."

The people of this town take a great pride in it.(the Town, and the Brown Ale!)
A view of the TYNE BAR FROM OUTSIDE , including my car!(remember this photo because you will need it so you can find the pub when you get here!!)

Monday, May 15, 2006

The Tyne Pub.

After that walk along the Ouseburn the best place to finish off is the TYNE BAR. This place has a great atmosphere,no idiots, wonderful bands on(inside and outside in the yard when the weather allows) and a free jukebox with blues, reggae, country, soul and punk.
A close up of THAT WALL.

Boat Building.

After the 7 stories bookstore the river bends to the left and as we follow
the path we come to these guys rebuilding thier boat. It's always good
to see some old traditions stll going.

Here's another boat, although I dont think this one would stand
much chance against an ICEBERG!

7 Stories Boat.

The bottle you saw in my last post leads you down the Ouseburn path, and the
first thing of interest you see in the back of the '7 stories' childrens bookstore and education centre. This boat is outside on the river. What they use it for I have no idea, but isn't it great? It's a magical place for kids and many school trips go here aswell as family's.
If you go here you cansee the MAIN BUILDING from the front and the back.

Friday, May 12, 2006

Im fixed!!
Hopefully my next new post will be first thing saturday morning, where I will continue my trip down the Ouseburn for you. See you then.

Tuesday, May 09, 2006

Hello viewers.
It's Tuesday night at 6.28 pm and my computer hard drive crashed about an hour ago,
I have popped round to my friends house(thanks Heva) to post this message.
I am going to be out of action for a day or two,so please bare with me while I get it fixed.
If your a regular visitor here, but you dont visit some of the other Daily Photo Blogs listed on this site (scroll down to the bottom until you see a list of continents) then now is the time to go and visit other parts of the world!
Normal service will be resumed a soon as possible.

Ouseburn Bottles.

We are going to spend a few days down by the Ouseburn(my favorite part of Newcastle) as there are so many different things to see. We are starting with a bottle! These are dotted around the area pointing you in the direction to go. Some even have LITTLE MESSAGES on them.

War Memorial.

Next to those horrible LEGO MEN(remember?) is the war memorial for the 1st and 2nd WW's. It seems strange to me to put something so trivial(the lego men) next to something so dignified and important.
CLOSE UP with more detail.

Sunday, May 07, 2006

Dean Street.

This street leads down to the quayside. These buiding are not really typical of Newcastle and have always reminded me of Dutch building.(Dont know if the are the same in style..DUTCHIE??)
A CLOSE UP here.

Burnt out warehouse.

This old quayside warehouse was going to be turned into (very expensive) accomodation. However a suspicious fire a couple of weeks ago has caused so much damage that it looks like they will be demolished completely.
Go here for a view WITHOUT THE FENCING.

Robert Stephensons' Factory.

Robert Stephenson(son ofGeorge , the founder of the railways) ,opened and ran the first ever locomtive factory in the world. Newcastle Central station is 100 yards behind were I am standing when I took this photograph.
The PLAQUE on the wall.
For more info about the Stephensons GO HERE.

Shoes???

While wandering round the Arena area(see yesterday) I came across this pair of shoes. They are new, unworn ,and still had the (reduced) price tag on!!
There is a CLOSE UP here.

Wednesday, May 03, 2006

The Arena.

This is the 'cattle shed' were all the big bands play in Newcastle. Everybody from Green Day and Pink have played here, but I have decided I will never go to another arena gig anywhere, ever again. You cant see-there is very little atmosphere and worse of all,the ticket prices are outrageous. Give me a small band in a small venue LIKE THIS anytime.

Ugly.

Go on, guess what it is? Actually your wrong, its not a prison! This is Newcastle Central Library. Its quite nice inside but who actually thought these things were attractive when they designed them?

While visiting my TATTOOIST the other week he was having some adjustments made to the studio.
This is the artist doing his front door(Graham I think?)
