Sunday Theme. You sure this is Newcastle?

The whole point of today is too make our towns and citys look like somewhere else. You thought New York was on the east coast of America, when in fact its just a few miles North of Newcastle!!
Go HERE to see Brian's NY blog,or HERE to see the one done by Chris, and HERE to see Joe's. The American NY may be a lot more famous but I'd bet this one is the original!

Is THIS in New York too?

An ANGEL at my photo only blog.

Vintage Clothes shop.

I just realised Im proberbly the only City Daily Photo blogger who hasnt shown any of the shops and stores in Newcastle(not counting record stores ,where I spend all my days). So here is the first.Hard to find as its hidden away down a little back street.
Go here to see what that LITTLE PIECE OF PAPER says in the letter box.

MY SON at photo only blog.

Dont forget "Theme Sunday" tomorrow, where we will see that our towns and cities sometimes look like others!!

Street Railings.

Some of you may remember my pictures of the statues of 'Man and his potential selves' that I posted a while back. I think it was Lisi who liked the railings in the background. They are all over Newcastle and are of course based on the castle.

Window Cleaner.

Driving through town on Tuesday, the traffic came to a stop. I noticed 2 guys cleaning the windows. Luckily my camera was on the seat next to me,although by the time I turned it on one was on the ground.
Only just got to take the photo before the traffic started moving again.

Unconnected.Even kids can have car trouble!! PARKING PROBLEMS here

Pub Signs of Newcastle No.3.

As promised yesterday, here is the Trent's actual sign. I was going to put it on my other blog but I wanted as many people as possible to see it.Go to this link, click on TRENT HOUSE SIGN and then read the "what is it?" section-brilliant! If you go to the link you can see the WHOLE PUB.

Oh,and by the way...a 'blob' is a condom!!!!(just a little too chewy I think Jenny!)

Pub Signs of Newcastle No.2.

The (World Famous) Trent House. I love this sign on the pub wall. Does anybody know what 'blobs' are???(not open to Geordies or British people!!) Tomorrow I will post the actual pub sign, which Im guessing none of you will have seen ANYTHING like it before!! ( I will also let you know what 'blobs' are!)

My other blog has a completly unconnected photo of a CASTLE.

You can also go here to try my new PHOTO ONLY blog.

End of an Era.

I know not everybody likes football, but I make no apologies for posting this photo.Alan Shearer is a legend in Newcastle, and after nearly 11 years playing for his home town club he had decided to retire in 2 weeks time at the end of the season. He has had to 'hang up his boots' a couple of weeks early as he was injured last week. All he wanted to do as a kid was play for Newcastle United and score goals.Thats exactly what he did do, although its sad to say that he deserved to win somethng which he never did here.

Some more photos from ST JAMES PARK here.

Graffitti Sunday-my turn!

Thought it was time I joined in the posting of graffitti photos on a Sunday. These have suddenly started appearing all over the street near where I live. I havn't seen them anywhere else so I dont know if someone is trying to get a message to a particular person?!! (Still I do agree 100%)

My other blog has some amazing street art of a VERY DIFFERENT type!

Red Cloud.

I was taking my son home to his mothers house the other night when I saw this. I nearly caused a crash as I (too) quickly pulled over to the side of the road!! What do you think it looks like?

My other blog today has a photo of a pretty FUNNY T-SHIRT which I hope none of you will find offensive!

Civic Centre Garden.

Last photo from the civic centre. This memorial is dedicated to all those in the North East who lost thier lives in the Burma campaigns. It was unveiled in 1991.

My other blog has an unrelated TATTOO PICTURE today.

Civic Centre Neptune.

This magnificent statue of Neptune welcomes you to the civic centre. As you can see he pours water on to himself and it drips down him and the wall. The reason for Neptune is due to Newcastle's long history with the sea. A LONGER VIEW is here.

Civic Centre Swans.

I have decided to spend a couple of days at Newcastle civic centre,as there is some interesting stuff here.I didn't even know these were here until last week! I was quite impressed though.A nice view through those stuffy office windows. There is ANOTHER VIEW here.

I waited about 40 mins to get this shot but just couldnt get what I wanted...still this is ok I suppose. This poster is for the film/movie,Goal! (WATCH A TRAILER here). It is about a Mexican who moves to L.A and gets chance to play for Newcastle United. The film is ok,but the main reason for seeing it is how stunning Newcastle looks on it. I always joke that the film was directed by the 'NEWCASTLE TOURIST BOARD'. It makes my city look amazing.

Go here to see another reason to LIVE HERE.

Sunday, April 16, 2006

This was taken at Newcastles' home game against Wigan yesterday. Losing the match 1-0, Newcastle were awarded a penalty. Our captain and living legend Alan Shearer steps up to take the penalty.....did he score? Go here TO FIND OUT. ( look how confident the guy in the bottom right hand corner is!)

The Sage Music Centre.

The Sage is definately one of my favorite buildings in the whole area.Ive heard it called the 'Slug',or even the 'Rollercoaster' among many other names. I call it the 'Armadillo'. Whatever you want to call it,I think its beautiful. (left click and press F11 for a better view) An INSIDE VIEW here.

Bessy Surtees House.

On my post from Wednesday 'anonymous' mentioned in the comments that "Dog Leap Stairs" was were Bessy Surtees escaped with her lover in 1772. This magnificent building was where she eloped from. There is a GREAT PLAQUE on the wall, giving brief details. Go here for more information on BESSY SURTEES.

Newcastle Airport.

Another night time shot. Those cars were moving very slowly even though they look like they would knock down any pedestrians in thier way!

Tyne Walk.

Another view of the quayside area.A more peacful side to the quay with no bars or clubs, just pretty expensive places to live, and yet more art work(to see another day)
From this part of the river walk go up THESE STEPS to get away from the quay.

The Ship Inn,car.

The Ship Inn is one of a handful of pubs that are spread over the Ousburn area.(The Ousburn runs into the Tyne) I see more and more of this type of advertising.Makes sense. Oh,and the car is pretty cool!

My other blog has more Drive-by Truckers photos.

Past,Present and Future.

More street art for you today. I have tried really hard to find out some info on this and I'm afraid I havn't come up with any! So I can't tell who designed it,or what it represents, although I do think the sentiment says it all anyway. ANOTHER VIEW.

Lord of Harpole

The ,self proclaimed,Lord of Harpole is a true local celebrity. He may possibly own the best CURRY HOUSE in town, but they certainly serve the hottest! Dont forget....a free flower for the ladies. He even has his ownWEB SITE.

Lego men.

The local council paid £270,000 for this street art. Nearly everybody hated it!! It got so bad at one time the council said that anybody wanted it they could have it for free! Its now going to be moved to the nearby skate park. What the LOCAL PAPER said.
Go here for a more "REFLECTIVE VIEW"'.

Old Eldon Square.

They are rebuilding part of Eldon Square shopping centre on this photo(centre-left).The green boxes are the workmens huts. You can also see the war memorial, but the reason for posting this is to show you were all the goths, skaters, punks and rockers hang out on a Saturday.Ranging in age from about 10 to 20,all thats missing is Marylin Manson! (This was not a weekend as you can see only one goth walking across!)
Go to my other blog to see a very cool photo of a NASCAR, car)

April Fool?

I used to live on this street and to this day I have absolutely no understanding of why he is on the end of this house!! As far as I know he has no connection at all to Newcastle,so I can only assume he was put there by brickies with a sense of humour!! (click on photo for more detailed view)
My other blog has an UNRELATED
